  • Greenhill solar farm

170 Ha (420 acres) additional land has been secured at Northey Farm to the northeast of the Warrington roundabout raising the total land area to 2,765 acres (1,119 Ha).

NNC hosted a meeting for Parish and Ward Councillors where Green Island Power (GIP) presented the project and answered questions and then NNC Officers explained the NSIP planning process and how NNC can influence the application which will be decided by the Planning Inspectorate.  The first stage is for them to suggest a list of requirements for the application.  The Parish Council can identify issues that we feel should form a part of the application and send these to the NNC officer to include in their report.

One obvious suggestion is to supply co-ordinates of viewpoints from which photomontages should be created.

Notes from the meeting:

The Warrington additional land is 170HA making 1119Ha in total.  It will not be used to remove other sites but give more flexibility in the design

A desktop study shows 20% of land is Grade 2 80% Grade 3.  How much is 3a & 3b is not known yet

GIP would sell on the scheme if it is granted but their major shareholder Mcquarie might choose to operate it

One of the most significant impacts in planning terms might be the loss of functionally linked land for wildlife that depends on the SPA

GIP are not keen to have a community fund or offer reduced energy costs

NNC and WNC will produce a Local Impact Report that will be submitted to PINS as their input into the NSIP process

Main battery storage will be in the Grendon compound but there may need to be some elsewhere.

Ward Councillors present were: Cllrs Jon-Paul Carr, Lora Lawman & Tom Partridge‑Underwood.

Also present: Cllrs Jason Smithers (leader), David Brackenbury (Exec member covering planning) and Tim Allebone (Croyland ward). All ward councillors said that they were not decided/neutral but their questions and tone showed that they were not viewing the scheme favourably based on the information that is currently available.

NNC Officers present were Adele Wyrely (CEO), George Candler (Director covering planning), Sue Bateman (Snr planning policy) & Nicola Thompson (planning officer for the scheme)
